Martí Crespí Pascual is a Real Mallorca youth graduate. Like fellow Sa Pobla-born Iván Ramis, Martí Crespí is a natural central defender.
He spent his first two full seasons at Granada 74 (2007/2008) and Xerez (2008/2009) before being confirmed in the first team for the 2009/2010 season under Gregorio Manzano. Recognising that he wasn’t going to be a regular, Crespí requested to go out on loan and was therefore sent to Elche despite many thinking he was ready for La Liga.
Under Michael Laudrup, Martí Crespí was again named in the first team for the 2010/2011 season where he was given the number 21 shirt. And he didn’t have to wait too long for his debut, and a dream debut at that. On October 3rd 2010, Martí Crespí made his debut against FC Barcelona in the Camp Nou where his side battled out a 1-1 draw. Crespí described his debut as “a dream come true”.
His chances in the 2010/2011 season have been limited, mostly confined to Copa del Rey matches. The lack of match practice did not help him in the Almería double header in which he put in two poor performances.
The departure of Rubén will spur Martí Crespí on ahead of the 2011/2012 season, however. The exit should guarantee the youngster more first team football.
