Ogunjimi joins Standard Liège
Real Mallorca striker Marvin Ogunjimi has joined Belgian side Standard Liège on a year long loan deal with an option to buy. The Belgian international joined Mallorca at the turn of the year after the club agreed a €2.8 million fee with former club Racing Genk but he failed to establish himself in the team under Head Coach Joaquín Caparrós.
As a part of the deal, Standard Liège will pay 100% of the player’s wages. The agreement also includes a €2.5 million purchase option for the Belgian club meaning Mallorca will recoup most of their losses. If Ogunjimi plays in 20 matches, Standard will be obliged to pay the €2.5 million purchase price.
The 24-year-old told realmallorca.co.uk that he ‘didn’t know’ where his future lay following his disappointing six month spell in Palma. But despite posting a picture of himself in a Mallorca shirt in the summer, Ogunjimi will be returning to his native Belgium to try and get his career back on track.
Real Mallorca will meet Standard Liège in a preseason friendly in the Netherlands in late July.
