Claassen calls for ‘transparency’ in Mallorca management

Real Mallorca have been embarrassed again after a story leaked not long after their victory in Vallecas revealing more boardroom tensions. Last week shareholder Utz Claassen sent a letter to the other Directors of the club calling for ‘more transparency’ in the management of the club. The letter was leaked to newspaper Última Hora causing an emergency meeting for the Board.

The emergency meeting took place at noon at the Iberostar Estadi in Palma where the Board discussed three things. The first was information about buying and selling shares to a Swiss-German Group. The second point was the efforts in signing Alejandro Alfaro. And the final point was other administrative issues. The meeting lasted for over three hours.

Following the climax of the meeting, Claassen, escorted by two security guards, said he was angry and called for ‘more transparency’. The German argued that the club was about ‘concepts and values’ before adding ‘transparency, integrity, management skills and professionalism.’

‘We had a good discussion,’ Claassen told reporters. ‘Very intense.’ Before fielding the inevitable question about his future. ’I'm not selling anything.’

Claassen originally bought 10% of shares during the original Serra Ferrer takeover in the summer of 2010. He then bought a further 10% this summer following the departure of the Nadal family meaning he has the second largest stakeholding in the club behind Serra Ferrer.

The topics will be resumed at the next Board meeting next Monday.
