Chori Castro’s future at Mallorca in doubt

Real Mallorca’s Uruguayan midfielder Gonzalo ‘Chori’ Castro talks to G. Fortaleza of AS about his future after four years at the club…

How are you personally?
I’m feeling good on the pitch. I’ve got my confidence back and the players are helping me to give my best. I think on a personal level things are going well.

Your contract with Mallorca ends on June 30. Have you received an offer to renew or had any proposals from other clubs ?
Up until now I’ve not had an offer from the club or from any other team, but I always say you’ve got to do whatever it takes in case something turns up. In that sense, the better you are then the better things will be. But, as I say, nobody has spoken to me.

Is this an especially important season for you?
You always mean to do well because you have aspirations to go further. The aim of any player is not to stand still but to go up the ladder and you take steps forward depending on your performances. I’m still waiting for the opportunity and I must be thankful because Mallorca have always treated me well; if something good turns up for me then it will also be good for the club.

And if that opportunity doesn’t arise?
If I don’t get any offers then to renew with Mallorca would be ideal, but I’m still waiting to see what happens in January.

Have you thought of the possibility of leaving in the winter transfer market?
Like I say, if an offer comes in that is good for the club and good for me then I need to take advantage of it. If you don’t get on the train then it will leave you behind; I’ll continue to wait.
