Jonathan de Guzmán completes Villarreal move

Canadian midfielder Jonathan de Guzmán has completed his long awaited move to rivals Villarreal for €8 million, RCD Mallorca have announced.

In a club statement, Mallorca said, ‘RCD Mallorca has demanded the full figure agreed between the club and the player (€8 million) as we remained determined to keep a player whos performances have fulfilled the expectations place on him.’

They went on to say, ‘RCD Mallorca thanks Jonathan de Guzmán for his undeniable and sincere commitment to defend the colours of Mallorca and wishes him well in the rest of his career.’

Villarreal, even up until yesterday, were refusing to pay the full €8 million until today when they realised Serra Ferrer was not willing to move.

The money isn’t expected to stay at the club for long with Serra Ferrer looking to close the transfer of the striker. It is very unlikely to be Real Zaragoza’s Uche, contrary to reports. There is more chance of a €6 million move for Sunderland’s Asamoah Gyan.
