West Brom offer £2.7m for Everton and Fulham target Pierre Webó
Spanish daily Marca has reported that Premier League side West Brom have offered €3 million (£2.66 million) for the services of Real Mallorca striker Pierre Webó. The Cameroon international, who is on a contract on the island worth £19,500 per week, has just a year remaining on his deal with the La Liga side.
Due to the bankruptcy proceedings which Mallorca are involved in, they are unable to extend Webó’s contract despite the good season the striker has just had in which he scored 11 goals – a personal record. The £2.7 million offered is a tidy sum offered for a player whose wages are too high and is out of contract next summer, so it is expected any deal will be around this price.
Webó, for family reasons, would like to play in the Premier League – and he isn’t short of suitors. Marca report that Everton and Fulham are both interested in the player, whilst British press is reporting that Newcastle and Sunderland are both interested in Webó – as was Alex McLeish whilst he was still at Birmingham.
