Rubén joins Osasuna

Spanish central defender Rubén González has joined Osasuna on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract. The 29-year-old had been offered a new contract by Real Mallorca but he decided to join Osasuna in the search for first team football.

Osasuna Sporting Director Ángel Martín González said that Rubén is “to replace Rosetxo Romero”.

A product of the Real Madrid youth system, Rubén signed a 2 year contract at La Liga side Real Mallorca with an option of a third in August 2009 to bolster a weakened defence. Whilst not first choice, he staked his claims for a place when Ramis was ruled out towards the end of the season whilst scoring 2 goals in 2 matches.

He didn’t enjoy a good second season with Laudrup losing faith in the defender. At his lowest point, Martí Crespí was picked ahead of him to play Barcelona in La Liga.

Rubén joins the Pamplona side on a two-year-deal which will automatically extend to three years once he makes 20 league appearances.
