Dénia 1-0 Real Mallorca B
A 55th minute penalty from Gervasio secured all three points for Dénia as Mallorca’s miserable run continues to 9 games without a win, with 2 draws, 7 losses and with 4 of the losses being in the last 4 games.
Mallorca coach Vicente Engonga had a selection headache pre-game with several key players missing. Striker Sergi Enrich was suspended whilst goalkeeper Tomeu Nadal was missing with a knee injury. Alberto, Ramón, Charlie Took, N’Golo and Calonge all missed out through injury as well, whilst Guy was left out on a ‘technical decision’.
The reshuffle meant chances for young goalkeeper Yeray, who was featured on realmallorca.co.uk earlier in the week, as well as Pablo and Víctor.
Los Bermellones played a very direct game in desperate search of all three points, but their anxiety told as their attacks were ineffectual. But despite their luck of cutting edge in their attacks, Engonga made no changes to the team or style of play for the second half and that decision came back to haunt him.
With ten minutes of the second half played, central defender Damià brought down Gervasio in the area and the referee awarded a penalty. Damià was booked and Gervasio scored the resulting penalty to put the home side 1-0 infront.
Engonga immediately responded by bringing on striker Abdón before later on in the game bringing on two more strikers in the shape of Aridai and Montes but to no avail.
With this weekends results, outright safety is now out of the reach of Mallorca B. They only chance they have of remaining in Segunda División B is if they win their last 3 games whilst Benidorm, Gramenet, Alzira and Santboià all lose theirs. Even then, they would be involved in a relegation play-off with promotion candidates from the Tercera División.
It has been, without doubt, an extremely miserable year for the Cantera as they look ready to rebuild ahead of a new season in the Tercera División – one tier below.
