Akihiro Ienaga was finally revealed to the Spanish press. The Japenese midfielder showed off his few words of Spanish in an unusually packed conference room holding over 50 journalists. He had pictures taken of him with the name ‘Aki’ and number 14 on the shirt.
Serra Ferrer compared Ienaga to new Manchester City midfielder David Silva and described him as “a good player, ambidextrous, quick, good passer, good header with a willingness to learn”.
Ienaga is likely to move out on loan to a second division club, however, due to Gonzalo Castro, Joao Victor and Ratinho taking up the 3 non-EU places.
Serra Ferrer has also not ruled out strengthening the side in the winter transfer window. The talk is that the club will aim for a bargain from the British or German markets, following Utz Claassen’s advice.
Holland coach Bert van Marwijk has said that Mallorca midfielder Jonathan de Guzmán may be called up to the next Dutch squad. “We are closely monitoring his progress at Mallorca and it hasn’t gone unnoticed that Jonathan has been in good form in Spain.”
