Weekly Summary – 05.11.10

Saturday 30th October 2010
  • Despite having Kevin, Pina and Sergi Enrich in the team, Mallorca B fell to a 4-0 defeat against Atlético Baleares. This leaves them just outside the drop zones after 11 games.
Monday 1st November 2010
  • Real Mallorca are now toying with the idea of building a new stadium on the grounds of Estadio Lluís Sitjar. The club revealed ideas of a plan to build a new 40,000 capacity stadium some time ago, but opposition of local residents and the local council meant plans were put on hold. The ideas included a convention centre, a shopping mall and a large parking lot.
  • Defender Iván Ramis has stated that it is the team’s “priority to win at home”.
Wednesday 3rd November 2010
  • Club president Jaume Cladera has revealed the Iberostar Estadi has a number of structural defects. The club has spoken to the mayor of Palma about the leaks under the stands, which is convenient considering the plans for a new 40,000 stadium.
  • Mateu Alemany has sold 10% of his shares in the club to German businessman Utz Claassen, the former president of German side Hannover 96. He is a Professor of Economics at the University of Hannover and was heavily involved with the financial restructuring of both Hannover 96 and the car company Seat. Claassen is a billionaire and has vast experience. And as well as his experience in the financial field, it is hoped his knowledge of the German market will help the club abroad with Mallorca being a popular holiday destination for many Germans.
  • Alemany still has a 29% shareholding in the club, but Serra Ferrer is keen to sell that soon. He is now in the market for a British investor with similar experience to Claassen as well as a knowledge of the British market to help with the clubs currently non-existent PR  in the country. Serra Ferrer wants to take advantage of the islands popularity in these markets.
  • Cladera has also revealed that, despite not being discussed at length by the board, the club would like to either build a new stadium in place of Estadio Lluís Sitjar or remove the running track at the Iberostar Estadi to make room for seating. The mayor of Palma, Aina Calvo, has rightfully pointed out that the running track was installed for the ’99 Universiada and that the club should first look at filling out the current stadium. This was proved on Monday night as only around 10,000 spectators showed up – less than half of the current capacity.
  • Pierre Webó has stated that his still feels his contribution is valued by the club and that he is an important player despite being transfer listed.
  • Gonzalo Castro is still yet to return to training, making him a doubt for the weekend’s game against Real Zaragoza.
