Real Mallorca 3-2 Atletico Madrid
Real Mallorca won the Ciutat de Palma Trophy beating Atletico Madrid 3-2 in their toughest test of pre-season.
Michael Laudrup’s side took control of the match in the opening minutes and it took just 15 minutes for Los Bermellones to take the lead. A curling free-kick from Marti was headed in by captain Jose Nunes.
Atletico struggled to respond, losing the game in midfield. And after 35 minutes, Emilio Nsue made it 2-0. It was Nsue who won the corner, and Marti’s cross was met by the goalscorer who scored good awareness.
Despite the introduction of Kun Agüero and Filipe Luis for Atleti at half-time, Mallorca added a third six minutes after the restart. A brilliant pass from Emilio Nsue saw Pierre Webo confidently place his shot into the corner of De Gea’s goal.
Fran Merida and Kun Agüero pulled two goals back for the Europa League winners but it wasn’t enough to save them in what was an impressive Mallorca performance.
Mallorca will face CD Tenerife next in their final pre-season friendly which has just been arranged for the 20th August.
