Five days to go…
With five days of the summer 2010 transfer window remaining, there is alot of news breaking. So here is another update in regards to where the club stands.
We have no more information on any possible loan deal for Welliton Soares. And with rumours emerging that the club is close to signing 26-year-old Argentinian Fernando Cavenaghi on a season long loan deal from French side Bordeaux, that deal may be put to bed.
Laudrup has finally made up his mind in regards to Edson Ramos (Ratinho) and João Victor. It’s a yes. Both players have been signed on five-year deals but it is currently unknown whether they will start the season in the first team or the B team. Edson Ramos is a right back, and João Victor is a central midfielder.
Despite the attempt at signing a striker, it seems asif the club will be forced into keeping current strikers Pierre Webo and Alhassane Keita for another season. Both players have refused to talk to other clubs and Keita refused to go on trial at Premiership sides Stoke City and Newcastle United. The problem Mallorca have is, their contracts of £19,500 p/w (Webo) and £11,800 p/w (Keita) is crippling for the club. Especially for the role they would be playing at the club.
Jose Nunes has confirmed he has rejected other offers to remain at the club. Llorenç Serra Ferrer wants Nunes to remain at the club for the rest of his career as captain and for the side to be built around him. The contract will also include a clause that will allow him to become part of the coaching staff upon his retirement. No contract has yet been signed but Nunes has given his word which, he says, “is worth more than a piece of paper”.
Meanwhile, his central defensive partner Ivan Ramis, who didn’t train with the side today and is an injury doubt for the season opener against Real Madrid, is still closer to leaving the club than staying with Sevilla the favourites to sign him. Espanyol and Villarreal are also interested. The good news for Mallorca is that the administrators have given them the green light to open contract negotiations with the player. The club are expected to offer an increase of £3,100 per week to £13,100 p/w from £10,000. The question is whether this can compete with any offer from other clubs. Ramis’ current contract expires at the end of the season.
We’ll post more news as it happens…
