Mallorca sign de Guzman
Primera Division side Real Mallorca have confirmed the transfer of attacking midfielder Jonathan de Guzman from Eredivisie side Feyenoord on a free transfer. The 22-year-old has signed a contract until the summer of 2013 with his new club.
New head coach Michael Laudrup is eager to add some fresh blood to his squad ahead of the new season and had the capture of an attacking midfielder marked down as one of his primary objectives. De Guzman is Mallorca’s first signing of the summer transfer window.
The Canada-born player is a product of the Feyenoord youth academy and has made 109 Eredivisie appearances for the Rotterdam side, scoring 23 goals in the process. De Guzman had an expiring contract at Feyenoord and refused to sign a new deal.
De Guzman had also attracted the interest of Valencia, Espanyol, Hamburg, Koeln, PSV, Twente and CSKA Moscow, but has now opted to join Mallorca instead.
