Kasimpasa signs Fernando Varela

Primera Division outfit Real Mallorca have confirmed the departure of midfielder Fernando Varela. The 30-year-old has left the Islanders on a free transfer to sign a contract with Turkish outfit Kasimpasa. Varela joined Mallorca from Real Betis in the summer of 2006 and had developed into an important first-team player since. The influential midfielder had made well over 100 league appearances for Mallorca.

Varela’s contract with the Bermellones was due to expire in the summer of 2011, but Mallorca opted to let go of Varela on a free transfer after new head coach Michael Laudrup deemed the midfielder surplus to requirements. Kasimpasa finished eleventh in the Turkcell Super Lig last season and are eager to do better next term. Therefore, head coach Yilmaz Vural is looking to add to his ranks this summer.
