FC Zwolle 1-1 Real Mallorca
Real Mallorca garnered a draw in their first pre-season game in the Netherlands against second tier side FC Zwolle. Despite the underwhelming result, Mallorca has no reason for concern. The main issue bringing the sides level was the vast difference in fitness.
Laudrup started with Tomeu Nadal in goal, his defence consisting of Josemi, Nunes, Marti Crespi and Ayoze. Nsue, Marti, Tomas Pina and Keita lined up along midfield. And Sergi Enrich partnered Victor up front.
For the most part, Mallorca controlled the opening stages. Nsue, Sergi Enrich and Nunes all had good chances to give the Islanders the lead. But the biggest disappointment was Victor’s failure to convert from the penalty spot.
At half-time, the team were informed of UEFA’s decision to remove them from this season’s Europa League. And with the news came some changes, with Pau Cendros replacing Josemi and Ruben replacing Marti Crespi in defence. The midfield was completely different, with Laudrup insteading lining up with Pereira, China, Tejera and Castro. The second half also saw the introduction of Oscar Trejo and Pierre Webo up front.
With the news came another shock. Six minutes into the second half van Polen gave FC Zwolle the lead. And it took until the 80th minute for Webo to equalise, scoring after an assist from left back Enrique Corrales.
The match finished 1-1. A somewhat unremarkable encounter which was easily overshadowed by UEFA’s bombshell.
