Deportivo la Coruna 1-0 Real Mallorca

Mallorca had a glorious chance tonight to overtake Sevilla into fourth place in the league, as Sevilla were playing hosts to Barcelona. However, their own match was also a tough test.

The first half started evenly but quickly the visitors came alive, threatening to score on numerous occassions. They were almost made to pay when Deportivo striker Riki hit the crossbar when perhaps he should have been celebrating. At half time, somehow, both teams were going in goal less.

Deportivo came out refreshed and pushing for an opener, again Riki look the most likely to score, coming close twice at the start of the second half. With 69 minutes gone it finally was Riki who gave Depor the lead, finishing off a nice pass by Valeron.

After the goal Deportivo defended stubbornly while searching for a killer goal, and held on for a tight 1-0 win. Mallorca deserved and should have taken something from the first half but with Sevilla unable to stop Barca, the gap to fourth remains the same.
