Sevilla deny Manzano approach
Sevilla president Jose Maria Del Nido has denied reports suggesting he was already in discussions with Gregorio Manzano, insisting the club have not spoken to the current Mallorca coach.
“Sevilla have not even spoken to Gregorio Manzano. That’s false news,β the president told the press after some reports in Spain suggested that the club had already reached an agreement that would see the Mallorca coach take up the post this summer.
βOn the same day there was news of [Bordeaux coach Laurent] Blanc. We have not dismissed anyone [for the job], even Antonio Alvarez.β
Alvarez was appointed as caretaker coach until the end of the current season following the dismissal of Manolo Jimenez in March this year and is not expected to last beyond the summer.
Manzano, meanwhile, has earned huge plaudits for leading cash-strapped Mallorca into Champions League contention. The islanders currently occupy fourth spot in La Liga, sitting one point ahead of Sevilla with five matches remaining.
