Real Mallorca 4-1 Atletico Madrid
Real Mallorca overcame a tired Atletico Madrid 4-1 to continue their excellent home form at the ONO Estadi. Victor's initial shot in the 10th minute was blocked by Perea but the rebound went through the defender's legs firing the Islanders into the lead.
Former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan put the visitors back on level terms around the 25 minute mark following an assist by former Mallorca midfielder Jurado. But an Aritz Aduriz header just moments later restored Mallorca's lead.
Atletico twice came close to an equaliser before the break as Corrales cleared a Dominguez header off the line and Aouate saved well from goalscorer Forlan.
Shortly into the second half Atletico were down to ten men. Two silly bookings for Raul Garcia ended his night early. And victory was assured late on as Perea turned in a Julio Alvarez corner into his own net and on loan defender Mattioni scored a spectacular volley from a Julio Alvarez free kick.
The victory means the Islanders leap frog Sevilla into the fourth Champions League place. The Islanders will next travel to struggling Racing Santander on Wednesday night in the hope to quell their terrible away form.
