Lluís Sitjar Nou

The Lluís Sitjar Nou is the planned redevelopment of Real Mallorca’s former ground Estadio Lluís Sitjar. The club announced in October 2010 its intentions to return to their former home ready for their centenary year in 2016.

An architectural team led by Guillermo Reynes has drawn up proposals for the 27,000 all-seater stadium. The stadium itself has a roof that covers all stands compared to just the grandstand which is covered in Son Moix, and the fans will be very close to the pitch – a big complaint from the locals in regards to Son Moix. The stadium will have 872 VIP seats with 178 seats in the Presidential Box.

The complex will include a shopping centre complete with food hall and hotel with 60 rooms. It will be fully wheelchair accessible as well as energy efficient and would be used through the week as a multi-purpose stadium by the local community.

The move back to the heart of Palma from the industrial zone also makes the stadium more accessible for tourists with the Board of Directors hoping this will boost attendance figures.

An English investment group has agreed to put forward €200 million (£177.5 million) towards the building of the 27,000 seater Lluís Sitjar Nou along with the facilities to go with it. This is the biggest step in making the project possible within the five year target, ready for the club’s centenary year.
